Description
The Bolshevik Revolution introduced Marxism to Bengali intellectuals who
lost an opportunity to build it up theoretically. The book critically examines
their writings on Marxism, referring to wide-ranging sources in Bengali, not
hitherto available in other books on Marxism. The Bengali Marxists wrote
on Marxian theory and were greatly excited by Marxian aesthetic debates
from the 1930s, privileging art and literature over political struggles, which
perhaps explain its failure as a practice.
