Walking in the land, with the people

Description

It gives one a sense of elation that the collaborators of this project have been able to cross so many boundaries to the extent that one doesn’t quite know how to describe their ‘work’ any longer. It is to the credit of this team’s political sensitivity and creative intelligence that they have realized the importance of locating their immersive artistic collaborations with farming communities in the habitat of the farmers themselves. In the process, the tillers of the soil have become ‘artists’ in their own right.

In an age of dire predictions relating to climate change, intensified by the corrosive power of political authoritarianism and corporate power, which seem to have numbed our capacity to act, it is useful to be reminded that there are other forms of art practice that have the potential to heal and rejuvenate through the creative energies of agriculture. There is definitely a new eco-aesthetic at work here.
