This book is about the Sudbury Valley School which began in 1968 in Framingham, Massachusetts, USA.

The school accepts students from four to nineteen years of age and they are free to select what they wish to learn and to take as much time as they wish to learn it. This takes place in a pure democratic organisational structure. The initiative and enthusiasm is expected to come from the students who are only taught what they themselves are eager to learn. There is no curriculum, no programme. The students have complete choice over what, how and with whom they learn anything.
